We were treated with so much kindness when we showed up very late, with no reservation, after an Airbnb problem. The owners were incredibly flexible and welcomed us in. The hotel is cozy, charming, clean, and clearly well cared for. We appreciated the excellent coffee in the morning, too. The scenery is beautiful, and Windham’s ski slopes are close by. You can tell the owners really care about making people comfortable. We’ll be back whenever we’re in the area.

What began as a late-night scramble during a snowstorm became a memory we’ll always treasure. After trouble at another accommodation, this was the only hotel that opened its doors to us. They quickly found us two rooms despite the hour, and we won’t forget that kindness. The place is full of character, warm and charming, and the snowy surroundings made it feel almost magical. We felt at home as soon as we arrived, and cared for in a way that felt like being welcomed by family. It’s clear these are people who love their work and treat guests with real humanity and dedication. We feel very lucky to have found Albergo Allegria. Highly recommended.

There’s a river running behind the hotel, which makes the setting especially lovely, and Windham mountain is nearby. We could also walk to some good places to eat. The service was friendly and everything was clean. When we realized we’d left our portable speaker behind, management mailed it back to us. That was beyond what we expected. Such a charming place to stay.

Marianna and Leslie are wonderful hosts, always ready to help, and they even brought me a fresh carafe of coffee after hours. We’ve had such personal, amazing experiences at Albergo, from the huge, gorgeous cottage rooms to welcoming our 165lb dog. The breakfast and brunch on site are fantastic, too. There’s no better place to stay in Windham for us. I won’t stay anywhere else.

We first found Albergo in March of 2025, when my boyfriend and I had checked out of an Airbnb but weren’t ready to head home. Since we had our dog and most places weren’t pet friendly, someone at a little motel suggested we try it. Leslie, who runs the place with his wife Marianna, showed us the two pet friendly rooms in the carriage house. The rooms share a layout but each has its own decor. The main historic house isn’t pet friendly. Leslie works the front desk, and Marianna is the chef. Our stay was great. The large jacuzzi tubs fit two, and the bath salts were really nice. There’s a mud room at the back with ski racks, downhill skiing nearby at Windham, Hunter and Bellayre, and cross country skiing right out back. The Batavia Kill runs behind the property, and we could hear the water rushing over the rocks. The location made it easy to walk to Higher Grounds for coffee, bagels and pastries, and to Prominence, the chop house next door. Garden Heir, near the pharmacy, has durable garden tools, home decor and apparel. We also enjoyed the beautiful loop on the Windham Path, accessible behind the pharmacy. We slept in instead of trying the much praised breakfast, but we did buy a spinach/bacon quiche fresh from the oven one day, and it was delicious. The owners made us feel welcome and showed us where to get ice. There was also a taller hotel refrigerator in the room. I honestly can’t think of anything I disliked, and can’t see why I’d stay elsewhere unless I wanted an Airbnb experience. In November, I was tracking a storm that was expected to bring snow where I live in New Jersey, though the forecast changed to mostly rain. It still looked like a moderate snowstorm in the Catskills, so I called Albergo. Leslie had the same room available and said we could sort out payment the next morning. He remembered me, which impressed me. Snow was clearly on the way when I arrived, and I woke up to a winter wonderland. It’s a lovely intimate place. The Wylder next door looks nice on its website, but the hospitality at Albergo is in another league. Even locals rave about the breakfast. You can see how much heart Leslie and Marianna put into their work. It’s a special place.
