Rock Hall Luxe Lodging

The house has a billiard room, a small fitness room, and a movie theatre with candy and popcorn. There’s also a short hiking trail on the lovely grounds. We’d like to come back, maybe in summer when we could use the pool, hot tub, and tennis court. Our April weekend brought one frosty day and another that reached 65 degrees, which gave us a chance to light the fireplace at night. Michael was accommodating and put out a lovely breakfast. He mixed drinks and served cheese and fruit when we arrived at 8:30 Friday night, then brought out drinks and cocktail shrimp before we left for our anniversary dinner at a nearby historic restaurant. He’d made the reservation for us. We splurged on the weekend at Rock Hall for our 25th wedding anniversary, and it was worth it.

Only been here an hour and my blood pressure is down 50 points. There are fires, couches, drinks, forest, a pool, and a hot tub. I'm sitting by the fireplace in our room waiting for the massues to come in. Mike's going to make us dinner after we have cocktails later.

The owners could use some CHARM SCHOOL. Rock Hall looks quite nice outside, but we found the owners rude and their attitude toward the furniture and smoking off-putting. The owner went berserk when we asked about smokers going outside, and she seemed so attached to the chairs in the pool house that she didn't want anyone using them because of what she'd paid. I've stayed in some of the world's most expensive hotels and resorts, as well as Holiday inns, and never heard that kind of language or attitude about furniture. We had planned to rent the whole lodge, but after meeting the owners we couldn't wait to leave, whatever the price or accommodations. They came across as "CENTRAL CASTING" rude New Yorkers, acting as if they were saving us from the Hillbilly Sate of CT by renting their lodge. The place may have nice physical features, but it isn't the 5 Star luxuary resort the owners claim in writing or in person. Hope they have taken a week off if you book. Your money will be better spent at THE WINVIAN or MAYFLOWER.

The place was beautiful, and the apple orchard let us pick fresh apples. Michael and Stella were wonderful hosts, and breakfast was amazing. Also, that pinball machine was really fun. We’d stay here again.
