Rodeway Inn & Suites Winter Haven Chain Of Lakes

Once in the room, we found a dead roach inside the microwave glass. We asked to move, but were told it was the only room that could fit our family. Since the booking was non-refundable, we tried to make it work. My husband asked what they would do about the microwave, and the front desk man, who I think was named Sam, and the owner or manager who lives at the hotel acted like it was no big deal. My husband asked them to remove it and replace it. I was uncomfortable and asked my husband to request fresh bedding too. They refused, saying the sheets had just been washed, and ignored us when we repeated the request. I checked the sheets and comforter myself and found two white stains on the comforter and another on the sheets. The chairs were stained too. Looking around, I saw food marks on the walls, a hole by the window, crumbs under the couch, and a stain on the curtains. We had brought pizza because the kids were hungry. My husband stepped out to run an errand, and less than five minutes later a small roach came out near the coffee machine. I took a photo and sent it to him, then saw another roach crawling on the wall. He turned around and came back. We packed our food and snacks, thankfully our suitcase was still in the car, and told the front desk we were leaving. My husband showed him photos and video of the roaches, and the clerk was upset with us. There was no apology for the conditions or inconvenience. He just said we could leave and walked away angry. We drove around looking for another hotel, but several were full or couldn't fit our family. We got lucky at the fourth place, Best Western. We booked the roadway inn & suites from 10/11-10/12, and when we arrived it had seemed quiet and quaint. But Roadway Inn is nothing but scammers. They still hadn't changed our reservation, so I called Expedia to explain and ask for a refund, which Roadway is refusing. Their advertised photos aren't reality. Drive a few more minutes and book somewhere else.

The room was filthy. The toilet wouldn't flush, there was a bottle opener nailed inside the shower, and the door had dents in it. My daughter and I shared a bed, but the sheets were clearly unwashed, so we slept with a throw blanket and pillow from the car. If the outside had been safe, we'd have slept in the car instead. There were too many people, loud music, and a weed smell. I wouldn't let my dog stay here.

The room was very spacious, but there were roaches, and all the trash cans were empty because, as they put it, they don't use garbage bags. They also took a security deposit without mentioning anywhere that one was required. Then they kept part of it, claiming we stole pillows. We absolutely did not take any, and they refuse to return the money. Don't stay here, they'll rip you off!

Rodeway's head office needs to inspect this location. I didn't see the bugs other reviewers mentioned, but the rooms felt worse than prison cells. If this is the best Rodeway can offer, stay at Motel 6.
