The Riverside building has the better mountain view, and there are plenty of places to eat in the village. Just know most places close early, around 8-9, and earlier on Sundays. There aren’t private shuttles into town, and there was only one Uber driver there. A general bus does take people into town, but it’s regular public transit. Still, this is the place to stay in WP!
I wish I’d never booked this lodge. I was charged the full price after I couldn’t reach anyone willing to help. Other reviews say reception can’t assist with reservations, and that someone who can help during the 24-hour cancellation period won’t return voicemails to process a refund. I never even entered a room, so there was nothing for them to clean and I didn’t turn on any lights, yet they kept my money instead of refunding me. Simply because they can.
The location is spectacular for skiing, and there was lots of biking activity with easy access to hiking trails. Staff were very helpful, and the condos had everything needed to prepare meals. The carpets should be replaced, though, and I couldn’t open the windows in my room. Since there’s no air conditioning, it got uncomfortably warm in the afternoon. I would have liked TV service. I had a good experience overall and would return. Good place for the price.
The parking entrance and exit are really frustrating because the QR scanner keeps failing. I’ve never been somewhere that required both a condo RF scan card and a separate QR code for the parking lot. I won’t be coming back to Winter Park Village.
We’ve taken lots of family vacations here in summer. The views are gorgeous, nearby hikes are great, and the rates are reasonable. Jim Creek trail, just across Highway 40, is very nice, and there’s a bike trail from the resort down to Fraser. Rocky Mountain National Park and Grand Lake are an easy hour’s drive away. All the rooms have kitchens, and summer parking is free. Nearby Fraser has a Safeway grocery store. The elevation is 9,200 feet, so you may notice the thinner air for the first few days.
