Black Hawk Motel and Suites

The Black Hawk was a great first stay, and I would gladly return. Check-in and checkout were easy, the service was friendly and always came with a smile, and the price felt fair. The rooms were clean and well cared for. Our room's large outside window let in lots of natural light, and it had the usual basics: a mini fridge, microwave, sink, hair dryer, TV, air conditioning, heat, and hot and cold water. The outdoor pool was closed for the season, but the indoor pool was open and nicely warm. The same area has an arcade, shared sauna, showers, bathroom, hot tub, and laundry room, which was really convenient. Outside there are picnic tables and a small play area for kids. The location worked well, close to downtown Dells and right beside a Kwik trip, which I love. I came to Wisconsin Dells for the nature parks and chose this place instead of a chain hotel or resort. Just to be clear, it's not a luxury hotel, but the positive reviews made me give it a try.

The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and we liked having both heated pools, indoors and out. They also offer some free passes for Dells activities, and the price was reasonable. The man who checked us in was lovely to talk with, and we got into our room a little early. I'd come back.

We paid in full for two nights in a jacuzzi room to celebrate our anniversary. I got sick on the first day, so we planned to skip that night and arrive the next evening, accepting that we'd lose the first night's cost. When we showed up, the whole reservation had been canceled, including the second night we still intended to use. Staff said they'd rebooked the room because we hadn't arrived, despite having our payment for both nights. They couldn't point to a clear policy, and my email asking for one has gone unanswered. Other hotels nearby told me they would at least call before canceling, and wouldn't cancel a paid second night. We had to book somewhere else and pay again, so we effectively paid for three nights to stay for one, while the hotel could resell our room. We didn't want a fight on our anniversary, but this felt unfair and was deeply disappointing. I can't recommend the property unless they address the cancellation policy and customer service.

A really good stay. The rooms were roomy and clean, and the residents nearby, other guests, and staff were all friendly.
