Americas Best Value Inn Wisconsin Rapids

We’ve had a great week here, and when we decided to add one more night, they let us keep the same room. The staff have been amazing, and housekeeping is right on top of things. Our room is very clean, breakfast has a great variety, and it’s pet friendly. Looking forward to coming back to Wisconsin next year.

The front desk clerk was very nice and got me checked in quickly. The room was also pretty nice, with a large fridge, microwave, comfortable bed, and decent shower. It felt clean and didn’t smell of cigarettes, though I woke up to a beetle on the other bed. Bugs happen, but at $150 per night I expected a bit more. The window was open and the AC off when I arrived after a hot day, so the room felt muggy. The stairs and halls looked cleaner than the lobby, where I noticed a strong cigarette smell and a plexiglass barrier that reminded me of a gas station in a rough area. I’d read the reviews expecting a nice place, but pulling in around 10:30 at night, I saw a van full of drunk men in the parking lot yelling and making crude comments about women’s bodies. I’d nearly left, but I’d prepaid online, so I got my things and went inside as quickly as I could. As a woman traveling alone, I didn’t feel safe after that or during check-in. I’m from Wisconsin and have traveled quite a bit, and I’ve never felt this unsafe at a hotel. I didn’t try breakfast. An older man was loudly watching TikToks at one of the two or three tables in the small room, and the smell was so unappetizing that I wanted to leave right away. The clerk was the best part of the experience besides leaving. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There are lots of other options, and the extra $10 is worth it. In response to the owner: I have the right place. I don’t use my actual last name on these forums. It was a very bad experience. I’m sure they would have addressed the issue, but by the time I was inside, the damage was done and I felt uneasy for the rest of my stay.

If you need an inexpensive place to sleep, this is a better choice than other cheap places in Rapids. The hotel is dated, as you might expect for this kind of place, and the room was fine but nothing special. Breakfast was waffles and packaged baked goods, which didn’t impress me. The coffee was poor, though drinkable.

The shower head leaked, which was my main complaint. Otherwise, the room was fresh and clean, and all the staff were very sweet. The mattress and pillows were okay. The place is a bit dated, though the flooring may be new. ABVI's properties can vary a lot in quality, so I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
