Travelodge by Wyndham East Portland/Gresham

The room was clean and had a fridge, microwave, desk and chair, coffee maker, cups, a shower, and a couple of bathroom basics. No hairdryer, and the TV didn’t offer much worth watching. The walls are thin enough that I could hear the neighbors doing more than talking, which made for a long night. The carpets and flooring didn’t match at all. When I got to the room, the door wasn’t fully shut and the light was on, but I checked and nobody was inside. There were no bed bugs. After going out to eat, I picked up my taser and mace from the car on the way back. The location is handy, right off I84 near a gas station, bar and grill, coffee shop, and Walmart. The entrance outside is dark, so watch your step. The lobby is small, and big plants make the walkway tighter. The vending machine only takes cash. Not worth the money.

The room turned into a nightmare. My wife got very itchy from the bedding, and the door’s safety lock was broken. The place smelled like smoke and something pungent, and there seemed to be a lot of sketchy people around, with people apparently staying by the hour and causing nuisances at night. The night staff member was rude and condescending, with no idea how to be friendly. After the stay I looked at the reviews, and most matched what I experienced. The chain hasn’t fixed the problem. This was my worst motel experience, and I’d never stay at this hotel chain again.

Rooms were clean and nice, and the staff were friendly. The entrance is tucked off to the side, attached to the bar, and isn’t clearly marked, but it’s on the left. Breakfast is just coffee, so don’t expect extras. There’s laundry on site too. Not a bad place.

There’s an ant problem. It also seemed like the hotel might let people stay by the month or something, since people were hanging around the parking lot all night and would ask me for a cigarette or some change when I went out to my car.
