Comfort Inn & Suites Ormond Beach Oceanfront

We left after about 20 minutes because the room was so different from the photos and description online. It was dated and clearly hadn’t been cleaned: crumbs were all over the kitchen counter, chairs, and couch, the toilet kept running, and the AC vent was filthy and giving off a burnt smell. I told the front desk guy we were leaving and wanted a refund. He didn’t ask why or apologize. He gave me a receipt saying I’d been refunded, but four days later I still hadn’t received the money. The online reviews and pictures are misleading. We’d checked in just after midnight on New Year’s Eve after a delayed flight. The front desk associate seemed out of it and wasn’t friendly, though I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt since it was late and he was probably tired. I’d paid extra for an ocean-view suite, but he said every room has an ocean view. Why charge extra if the view is the same?

The outside looks a little weathered, but the rooms are terrific, and the staff are amazing. I’ve stayed at quite a few Choice hotel brands over the last couple of years, and this is easily the best. The breakfast lady is awesome and makes fresh scrambled eggs every day. I never had to ask for extra towels, washcloths, or anything like I have at other places. Great stay, and I’ll be back.

I liked the experience overall and would stay again, provided prices don’t shoot up for an event. I was there one Friday night during Biketoberfest, so the rate was much higher than it likely would be otherwise. Parking was free, with a decent number of spaces on site. It’s a basic hotel in a great spot right by the ocean. The front desk attendant was friendly and helpful, and the continental breakfast ran from 7 to 10 a.m. There was a good range of hot and cold food, including sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, and make-your-own waffles, along with cereal, yogurt, bread, bagels, muffins, fruit, milk, juice, and coffee with all the fixings. My spacious suite had two queen beds, a microwave, full-sized fridge, kitchen table, stovetop, small oven, sink, cookware, dishes, and silverware. I took off one star because I saw what looked like a German cockroach crawling over the bedspread. Thankfully there was only one, but it put me off.

We love this place and it feels like our own secret getaway. For what you pay, I don’t think any other hotel in the area compares. The rooms are modern and generously sized, right on the beach, with an incredible view any time of day. The front desk is always helpful, and Susan is so pleasant when she serves the complimentary breakfast. There’s also a big pool and hot tub beside the ocean.
