Holiday Inn Express Woodstock-Shenandoah Valley by IHG

The hotel was clean and the coffee was good, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. I'm in a wheelchair, and the front desk guy told my wife, while I wasn't there, that I could use the bathroom across the hall if I needed to, since our group had three rooms. One of our rooms was also supposed to have two beds but only had one. I spoke with the employee about it, then called the manager, who told me to find another place to stay. I've never been treated with such disrespect, and they need to do better. The front desk guy needs training. I spend at least 30 nights a year in hotels. I'm a 100% disabled veteran due to service-connected MS, though I know that may not matter.

The second room was freezing too, and took another six hours to warm up. I was very disappointed by how this was handled. On our second night, after dinner in the room, I came back from the bathroom and saw a mouse running across the desk where I'd been eating. My husband thought he'd heard one the night before on the third floor, but hadn't seen it. I grabbed our things and packed as fast as I could. He has a phobia of mice, so he wasn't much help. I told the girl at the front desk that the mouse had been on the desk and I couldn't finish my dinner. She didn't seem to care, and her attitude made it feel like this might happen often. We didn't get an apology, just a new room. The first night, it took six hours for our room to heat up. We were driving home to Florida and had stopped in Woodstock VA, choosing the Holiday Inn Express because the reviews looked good. I also contacted IHG, and they didn't seem to care about what happened. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

There were no odd smells anywhere, and the pool was beautiful. Breakfast was pretty good, and the hotel being 100% non-smoking was something I loved. The room had a TV, microwave, free wifi, mini fridge, coffee maker, iron and board, and blow dryer. It was clean, and the bathroom was too, though both were a bit dated. That doesn't bother me, but it might bother someone else. We arrived at 1AM after plans changed, and Steven at the front desk was kind and efficient at check-in. He was fine with my request for a late checkout. It was perfect for what we needed.

I've stayed here over the past few weeks, heading home on weekends. The staff are amazing, the rooms are clean, and I'd definitely return. Even on my first night, check-in was smooth and it was quiet. Breakfast was fantastic, especially the fresh pancakes!
