Trailborn Surf and Sound, Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy

We had a wonderful two-day stay right on the ocean. The building is older, but it’s been remodeled and is well cared for, and both the rooms and hotel were clean. Valet parking was included, apart from the tip, and the staff were very friendly and supportive. There was no morning coffee, drinking water in the lobby areas was limited, and beach chairs and coffee cost extra. The price for what you get is why I’m not giving it five stars.

We went in February, when it was pretty cold, so we didn’t get to see the pool or the outdoor amenities. What we did see looked just like the photos. Trailborn has been renovated with decor that has a 60s, mid-century feel. The rooms were fairly spacious, and the restaurant in the hotel was a notch above most. I recommend the lox bagel with cream cheese.

The grass and landscaping right by the ocean are unusual and really well maintained. Inside, the lobby feels upscale, and the staff, especially Robert and Alexa, were some of the friendliest and most attentive I’ve encountered. Even the hygiene toothbrush kits felt luxurious. Who knew this little slice of heaven was here? Can’t wait to go back!

The place is picturesque and relaxing, with a ton of potential, but that old saying about putting lipstick on a pig sums it up. We were nearly run over by three different people on scooters in the lobby, and dinner at LaDuna left us baffled. The staff were pleasant but didn’t understand the menu’s ingredients or preparation. The seafood wasn’t fresh either, which was surprising given how close it is to so many local dockside markets and fishmongers.
