Deerfield Inn

For a quick night, I might consider this place, but I wouldn’t choose it for a longer stay. The floors weren’t properly cleaned, the rooms were dirty, and there wasn’t any toilet paper. It also smelled strongly of cigarettes, and the thin walls made it easy to hear people in the other rooms.

I left as soon as I saw the room, even though that meant taking the matter up with my credit card company. The bed had cigarette burns and short hairs all over it, and it clearly hadn’t been stripped and washed in a long time. Towels had hairs stuck to them, and there were strange brown and red stains on everything. It was absolutely disgusting and felt like a health hazard. You don’t get to see the room until after you’ve paid, and they don’t offer refunds. There’s a reason for that. Don’t stay here.

It was mostly quiet, and the staff were really friendly. The rooms were decent for the price, and it looked like they’d made some updates, which was nice. Best part for me was no bugs, that’s always my biggest fear 😅 I’d come back.

We had plenty of room for our bikes after taking the rail-trail from Columbus, and the beds were very comfortable. Our nonsmoking room, number 103, smelled great and looked good too. I was nervous after reading reviews of all three downtown hotels, but Deerfield turned out just fine. There aren’t any amenities, but that’s clear when you book. The fridge worked, so we picked up fruit and yogurt at the nearby Kroger the night before. Better than I expected. One thing to watch: the default booking is for a smoking room, but it doesn’t say that. I nearly selected it by accident before noticing “non-smoking” below. That could explain the reviewer who was sure they hadn’t picked a smoking room.
