Holiday Inn Guin by IHG

I liked this place for its restaurant, decent breakfast, pet policy, and the fact that it felt well lit and safe when I was traveling alone. It's also a handy halfway stop, so I've stayed here three times. But on my most recent visit, in room 219, I saw roaches around midnight. One disappeared into a crack in the wall, and later I spotted two more on the white bathroom towels when I turned on the light. It really made my skin crawl. I didn't move because my mother was asleep, and moving her, the dogs, and all the plants I had brought along would have meant risking them freezing in the car. I'm bummed, since I liked staying here, but the bugs are a deal breaker for me and I probably won't return.

Dinner was especially good, and bundling breakfast with the room was a great deal. We were looking for a restaurant open to the public along a not-too-busy highway and found this hotel's restaurant. We decided to stay the night too, since there were plenty of EV charging stations and laundry on site. The staff were super friendly. This has been my favorite Holiday Inn experience so far, and I'd book again if I'm passing through.

I stopped here midway through my trip, right off Interstate 22, and would stay again. Charging was especially convenient, with Tesla Supercharger-style stations as well as a separate charger for other EVs. The hotel is big but very well maintained, and my room was spacious with a comfortable bed, so I slept well. It was quiet and clean, and a great value for the price. The on-site food was decent, and the service was friendly and efficient.

Lindsay at the night desk was incredibly pleasant. The room was clean, the bed comfy, and the AC cold. Breakfast was rough. The server paid attention but seemed rushed and visibly frustrated, and with an hour of service still left, food was already limited. A kitchen employee seemed to be avoiding restocking the buffet and just waiting for 9AM to take it down. The food stayed empty for over 30 minutes, leaving my table and another young family waiting as closing time got closer.
