Broadway Inn Yankton

I left unhappy after a terrible stay. When I entered the room, it smelled of urine. I was exhausted and fell asleep for four hours, but when I woke and turned on the heat because the bathroom was extremely cold, the odor got stronger. No one answered when I called the front desk, so I went to the office and asked to move rooms. They said they couldn't move me and that the room couldn't be cleaned until the cleaning lady came Thursday. It was Tuesday. I was told rooms are cleaned only twice a week, though I doubt even that happens. I hadn't taken anything out of my car and asked for a refund, but they refused because I'd slept in the room for four hours. I understand the policy, but the problem should have been dealt with right away. The owner seemed concerned only with keeping my money. Back in the room, I smelled a strong burst of air freshener coming through the vent, as if they were trying to cover up the urine instead of addressing what seemed like a biohazard. I may have been exposed to one.

Room 17 had the best bed in the inn. The $60 nightly price is a case of getting what you pay for. Breakfast was just boiled eggs, milk, juice, cereal, honey buns, and muffins, so don't arrive very hungry. The coffee was tolerable but not very good. The gas station around the corner had pretty good coffee.

A basic roadside motel. I didn't handle check-in, but the room was modern, nice, and comfortable. I was glad there was no carpet, though the floors weren't exactly clean. I spilled some water and wiped it up, and that used up the last cleanish towel.

The clerk was very sweet and moved me to another room without a fuss because the one I'd booked was still dirty. Then I saw a bed bug in the shower. I thought it might have come off the previous guest, but within minutes of getting into bed I was bitten and found bugs on the sheets. I can't believe it. It could be a decent hotel if they cleaned properly and got rid of the bed bugs. Gross.
