Bass River Motel

We were glad to find a place that let us check in at 18, since being under 21 had left us with very few options. The owner/manager was extremely nice, gave us activity ideas, and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. Staff were friendly and informative, and housekeeping came daily. The Bass River Motel is in a wonderful location and good value for the money, though a little outdated. Our only complaints were rough sheets, a bathroom that needs new features and a deep clean, and carpet that could use more vacuuming. We stayed three nights and had a great time. We'd come back.

The room was much too hot on an 80-degree day, and there was no air conditioning. When I called, I was told it wasn't hot enough yet, nobody else had asked, and I should open the windows. The screens were broken. Later, while sitting at the worn picnic table, I heard three other people had also complained their rooms were too hot. The owner was rude to a friend who came to pick me up. We were two people but got just one set of towels, so thankfully we had our beach towels. The bedding was stained and scratchy, though the beds would have been comfortable with better sheets. The microwave looked so old I was afraid to use it. There was no mini shampoo or anything, just two tiny bars of soap. The mini fridge was clean and the TV worked; that's about all the good I can say. I came home with bites, though I'm honestly not sure whether they came from the bed or the beach. I'll say the beach to make myself feel better. The price was far too high for what was offered, which felt like little more than shelter. We only chose the place because we hadn't booked ahead, and I won't make that mistake again. I'd rather have stayed in my car.

I stayed for two nights and would return without hesitation. It's safe, clean, and well run, and the value was exceptionally good. When I'm on the Cape, I'm usually biking or spending time with friends, so I just need a room to sleep and shower. This gave me exactly what I expected for a great price. The owner was a very nice, polite man who went out of his way to introduce himself and ask if I needed anything. Don't expect champagne when you're paying for beer. Appreciate the beer for what it is.

For $200, I expected better. The room smelled when we walked in, so we checked the air conditioner filter, and I don't think it had ever been cleaned. It was disgusting. There was dust, an empty tissue box, a stain on one towel, and a small stain on a sheet. The woman who checked me out was very nice, but I don't think I'd stay again.
