The beds were comfortable and clean, and I really liked the pillows. The shower was good too, with strong pressure instead of a weak low-flow spray. The room felt dated, and the floor was damp with a faint mildew smell. I suspect the AC unit was leaking, since it was wet just outside the door too. I kept my shoes on and managed. The safety lock on the door was broken and looked like someone had kicked it in, though the main lock worked, and I've seen worse. I booked through Expedia. When I asked to add a night, the desk clerk said he'd have to charge me separately because the first night was through Expedia. That was fine, but then he quoted $249 for the extra night. I said no, and he claimed he had already charged my card. I know hotels and motels can cost more than the Expedia price, but $250 a night at a motel was too much. He said they were sold out, which didn't fit with how eager he seemed for me to stay or how hard it was to get him to cancel the night. After a lot of back and forth, he finally brought it down to about $99, and I accepted so I could stay another night. The whole thing left a bad taste. We tried breakfast the next morning because the photos showed waffles, but there weren't any and no staff were around. There were packaged muffins, bread, cereal, milk, and coffee. The cereal was fresh, and the milk was fine, though it had been sitting out warm. It's a typical older motel that would've met expectations if the extra-night charge hadn't been so confusing and frustrating.

I liked that my room was already cool when I arrived, a relief after working all day in the Texas sun. Check-in was quick and the front desk staff were friendly. There were several maintenance issues typical of a small-town place at this price, but the room was clean and comfortable overall. Good value if you're just passing through.

The rooms are okay, and the front desk guy is very sweet. The housekeeping staff are sweethearts too. The RV park is another story: it's a jungle. Someone mowed, but that was about a month and a half ago, and now the grass is almost as tall as me, at 5'2". Rent is $350, and unfortunately this is one of the few places in town for older RVs. The lease clearly says RV spot renters can use the pool, yet they're charging anyone who isn't renting a room $10 each night. They tell customers the pool pump is broken, but it clearly isn't. The pool is mostly clean. It feels like they only care about making money from people. Cuero city pool charges only $2 and is cleaned daily.

We ended up here with my husband and our 2 babies for almost a week after Hurricane Beryl left us without electricity in Houston. The staff were kind and helpful, and the rooms were clean with no bugs, which surprised me given the reasonable price for a room with 2 queen beds. It was so quiet and peaceful. The wide-open view of the beautiful sky each night made the trip special, and my kids played in the mud outside almost every day. I really loved being there and didn't want to go home. The pool was being worked on the whole time, and breakfast was only cereal, which were the downsides. Still, I was very pleased and hope to visit again soon.

The rooms are spacious, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating during our stay. Breakfast is light, not a full continental spread. My husband and I would recommend it if you're in the area.
