A Bed of Roses

Lisa, the property manager, was the highlight of our stay. She made us a really lovely breakfast, and my husband and I were comfortable here.

It’s hard to get closer to the south entrance without staying inside the park, and there are good places to eat down the hill. We only spent one night, but the setting was lovely, our room was comfortable, and it had both a shower and a separate Jacuzzi tub. The owner was attentive and quick to respond by text, though we were surprised she wasn’t at the property during our short visit. It wasn’t a problem, just unexpected. We left early for Yosemite, so we couldn’t try the reportedly good breakfast. Instead, two basic takeaway boxes were waiting in the fridge, as we’d been told. We didn’t use the pool, and the deck furniture outside our room was dirty, though we didn’t have time to sit out there anyway. Recommended overall.

The morning started on a warm note, with other guests greeting us and Dina making a delicious French toast breakfast with plenty of other choices. We slept well, and the tub in place of a shower turned out to be nice. After dinner and an evening exploring the park, my wife and I enjoyed a bottle of wine on the patio with beautiful mountain views. A mosquito deterrent would be a welcome addition 😂. Check-in was confusing at first. It felt like we’d walked into someone’s private home, and we startled the housekeeper while she was still cleaning our room. I also wondered if the B&B was new to handling Priceline reservations.

The big windows and the view from our room were nice, but the service really fell short. This is a Bed & Breakfast, not a 5-star hotel as indicated, and it’s about a 10-minute drive from downtown. For the high price compared with downtown hotels, I expected things to run more smoothly. We had to contact the owner on arrival day because no access code had come by email. When we got there, the room still wasn’t clean, so we couldn’t move in until 3:45, 45 minutes after the stated 3 pm check-in. Breakfast was meant to be served between 8 and 8:15 am, but staff arrived late and we ended up making our own. We also couldn’t use the kitchen without special permission. Hopefully the owner can improve staff training and get things done when promised.
