DoubleTree by Hilton Youngstown Downtown

We only spent one night here, and it was a lovely stay. Our two-bed room was much bigger than any hotel room I’ve had before, with the usual amenities plus a few unusual features. Check-in was easy, and the staff were helpful and nice. Downtown, bars, and restaurants are within easy reach, and there’s also a restaurant on the first floor.

I’ve stayed in several rooms here over the past four years, and I used to love this place. It has character, a cool atmosphere, comfortable unique rooms, kind staff, and a decent restaurant. But the water pressure has become just a dribble, and it can take 45 minutes to rinse off the soap. It used to be better. About two years ago, a corporate decision caused this, and I see it as a recent Hilton problem. I won’t return, and I’d avoid it unless you don’t plan to use water. Since all Hiltons seem like this now, I’ll look for another chain.

Housekeeping was excellent, consistent, and took good care of me. I wish there were an easy way to tip them. I was here for business, and the room wasn’t spacious, though it did the job. It stayed cold no matter how high I set the heat, and the water pressure was very low. I would’ve spent longer at the bar, but the cigarette smoke smell eventually put me off.

The staff were very polite, helpful, and accommodating. We were there for a wedding and, with a discount, the stay was acceptable. Still, unless you’re traveling for work on a company card, I don’t think it’s worth it. Paid parking was across the hotel by the garbage bins, which was inconvenient. The main entrance was closed, so we had to navigate a maze of halls to reach the elevators while unloading. My $300 port-a-crib was taken from the curb. Staff gave us routine apologies but couldn’t do much. They later found it and returned it, though that wouldn’t have changed the situation. I didn’t see street-facing security cameras, so we didn’t file a police report. Someone told me homeless people are often around the area and that it’s a problem. I think management could have taken steps to reduce these issues, but didn’t.
