Hotel by Best Western Yucca Valley Joshua Tree

It was clean, with friendly staff, no bugs, and no dirty linens. The free breakfast was decent and ran from 6am-10am. It can be pricey for this area, but it’s a good hotel.

This is the Spark by Hilton in Yucca Valley, despite the confusing rebranding online. The rooms are comfortable and the staff are nice enough, but the listing is misleading: it promises a hot tub and hot breakfast, and neither was available. I booked specifically for a night in the hot tub and eggs in the morning, so getting neither was a letdown. Also, the Wi-Fi wouldn’t connect to a PS5.

The front desk staff, Kevin and Jessica, were kind and as helpful as they could be. The manager, though, seemed annoyed when I tried to raise what was going on. She took $20 off per night and thought that was enough. At almost $200 a night, I expected a nice place like a Hilton or Marriott. I plan to complain further and seek a refund. This was disgusting, and I would never have stayed if the situation had been described honestly. I arrived without knowing the hotel was under construction and was put directly below a room being demolished. The floors and every piece of furniture were stained and filthy. I took photos, and after walking barefoot once, my feet turned black, so I wore shoes the rest of the time. They were power spray painting, and toxic paint fumes filled my bathroom all day. I had to block the bathroom door with a towel to keep them in. None of the advertised amenities were available: the hot tub was drained and the gym was closed. The parking lot was full of old furniture and construction vehicles, and demolition started at 6 am every day right above my room.

The staff were pleasant, the room was spacious, and it was reasonably clean. The hotel could be a 5/5 with renovation, though: the bathroom hardware was old, carpet was peeling away in places, the bed was just OK, and the TV was small. Sound carried easily through the walls and ceiling, so it could be tough for a light sleeper. Not a desirable stay, but serviceable. I hope they fix it up.
