Super 8 by Wyndham Yucca Val/Joshua Tree Nat Pk

We found an affordable room available even as walk-ins, fairly close to the Joshua Tree National Park entrance. The bedding was clean and the rooms were decent, though the bathrooms are very dated. The continental breakfast is basic, so don't count on it as a full meal. It works for a drink and a little cereal or oatmeal.

For $38, I would've been happy with an empty room and a yoga mat to sleep on. It's a two-star hotel, so I don't get the complaints about limited breakfast or dated rooms. Honestly, I could leave my apartment in Fontana and move in here to save a couple hundred bucks a month. Just look up what continental breakfast means before you book, so you know what to expect.

I wish I could give zero stars. The rooms were nasty, though honestly we were okay with that. The continental breakfast was another problem: the food was cheap and stale. Then came the wildest customer service I've ever seen. Our conversation went like this: Guest: “Our bathroom water pressure is really low.” Employee: “Are you checking out today or tomorrow?!” Guest: “Well, we're checking out today, but we need to use the restroom.” Employee: “Well, I'll get you the plunger then!” Guest: “You don't have anyone?” Employee: “No, this is a self-service hotel!” As the woman walked away, he peered into the hallway and added, “If you didn't like that you should've stayed at the Hilton!” So crazy.

The price is the main thing going for this hotel. It’s affordable, and the comfort level matches what you pay. The place feels dated in both the rooms and shared areas, and breakfast is extremely basic with very few choices. Fine if keeping costs down matters most.
