Where Eagles Fly Bed & Breakfast

Barbara and Fred are wonderful hosts, always attentive and accommodating. My wife Shelley and I have stayed with them every time we’ve gone to Tahoe since 2015. Their home is full of interesting details, with every room uniquely designed, and the whole place is an impressive feat of engineering that Fred conceived himself. From the wrap-around deck high above the lake, you get an unobstructed view of the entire thing. One summer day I watched a sudden rain shower move across it while I sat in the sun. Heavenly. We were there again for Christmas 2022, and Barbara’s decorations on the main level would put anything at Vegas or Macy’s to shame. For a couple seeking a quiet, lovely romantic getaway away from the crowds and noisy types that have overrun South Lake Tahoe, this is the place.

From our room, windows all around gave us a view of the lake, but my favorite part was sitting on the balcony and looking out over it. The house overlooks Zephyr cove, where our MS Dixie tour goes every day. The place’s atmosphere alone was worth what I paid. Frederick built the house himself, and it has beautiful character. The owners, Frederick and Barbara, are a welcoming couple and very direct, which I liked. Breakfast was good, too. I personally recommend this bed and breakfast to travelers visiting the area. The amount of detail in this hand-built German-style home is breathtaking. Every room, wall, and corner is custom made, and Barbara and Frederick are wonderful hosts who do all the work themselves. It’s a 7,500 sq ft lodge-like house on a mountain peak overlooking all of Lake Tahoe, and the family opens part of it as a B&B so guests can spend time there. Priceless. I’ve seen a few reviews with minor complaints. If you can’t find a way to enjoy this treasure, try a Motel 6.

We stayed in the home’s lower-level “apartment,” and even there the lake views were beautiful. Barbara and Fred are caring, wonderful people, and the house itself is lovely, with an amazing “Eagle eye” view of Lake Tahoe. Can’t wait to come back.
