Hotel Leoncia

The town around the hotel is extremely charming and enjoyable. I stayed a couple of nights, and for a budget hotel it does the job. Still, my room was tiny, breakfast was basically bread and not much else, and the pool didn't tempt me to get in.

The staff were really friendly and willing to help. Our room was a little small, though comfortable, and since there’s no lift they found us a ground-floor room. Breakfast had plenty of variety, but leaned heavily on carbs. The pool and Jacuzzi could have been warmer.

We were only a three-minute walk from the ferry, and the place was clean and comfortable. The private parking was a big plus for my motorbike, with plenty of space and good security. The staff were so helpful that nothing felt like too much trouble. Superb, highly recommend it.

The breakfast felt very limited: pastries, salted bread, coffee, a little yogurt and milk, but no fruit, eggs, or other protein. We were also told not to take too much because the owners were watching guests on CCTV. When my seven-year-old planned to take six different tea bags from the breakfast table, Paula at reception said, “The owners are watching the guests' every move through CCTV and they don't accept this behaviour.” She also called us out for drinking what she thought was too much water at breakfast. With 104°F weather and our room up three flights of stairs, we were thirsty and tired. Paula offered a 17-ounce bottle of water for about $1, or suggested tap water. There was an empty mini fridge in the room, so it was better to buy water at the Economico Supermarkets a few blocks away. The pool water was warm, like splashing around in your own and everyone else's sweat, which wasn't pleasant in that heat. Paula was disrespectful to older guests and other guests, shouting that she had to charge extra for everything regardless of the situation. I never saw her smile. She scolded us for spending more than 10 minutes in the lobby and challenged our explanations when we visited relatives staying in other rooms as part of our party. She spoke loudly and had a very opinionated attitude. She came across like a jail guard. There was, on the other hand, a very cool, creepy old-fashioned funeral car in the garage.
