Gran Hotel Fray Bentos

There’s a lot on offer here: a clean pool with comfortable loungers, a separate pool for toddlers, and a main pool that's 1.25 meters deep all the way across, so it's suitable for children. There's covered parking, a pool table, ping pong, a gym, and a sauna. The rooms have minibars, and there's a microwave in the lobby for heating food, a thoughtful touch. The river-view rooms are unforgettable. The staff were very friendly, and breakfast was generous with plenty of choices. Everything was excellent and the value was very good. I booked through Booking.com, which was much cheaper than booking directly on the hotel's website.

The pool is lovely, and breakfast is very good. I've stayed several times and it's always been great, with comfortable rooms and the usual hotel amenities. I wouldn't give it five stars, though, because there are no mosquito nets on the windows. I like sleeping with the window open for a bit of airflow.

I'd rate it 10 out of 10. The hotel website charged us $78 USD, while Booking.com showed $84 USD. The rest was great, with friendly staff, a generous breakfast, a pool, a pool table, and foosball for the kids. The air conditioning, pool cleaning, and gym equipment could use some improvement.

The location is good and breakfast was acceptable, but the bedspreads were stained and the pool was dirty. Staff delays also meant we arrived later than expected.
