Casa Suaya

There's a lovely pool and an on-site restaurant, and the beach is just across the street. The rooms are spacious, with closets and shelves, so they're suitable for a longer stay. You'll need a car to get around, or you can hire a guide.

Breakfast came with the stay and was delicious. Our cabin overlooking the koi pond was just right, with exceptionally clean rooms and a shabby-chic look.

The staff made us feel at home, and the breakfast was a nice bonus. We had a blast here, the cabins are cozy, and the service is great. Definitely recommend.

A few days at Casa Suaya was exactly what I needed during a dreary, painful California winter. The café and breakfast are part of the compound, and that breakfast is one I'll be dreaming about for weeks. The hotel has about three dozen rooms and sits roughly a mile from central Jose Ignacio, an enclave of Punta Del Este, Uruguay. Los Angeles restaurant mogul, television personality, and Argentine-born Adolfo Suaya opened this small beach boutique hotel 13 years ago. Like much of what he's built, it's blossomed over time through tireless attention and care. I loved the eclectic, elegant mix of visitors from around the world. Nearby, you'll find world-class restaurants like La Huella and Mirasma, and shops including Magma ans Altamar. For a winter escape, or even a summer trip, Casa Suaya is the chicest place I've stayed while heading south. Nahuel, Juana, and Sergio, the night-shift guy, stood out among the staff. Really, everyone at Casa Suaya was cool, relaxed, and professional. December and January may be the most popular months, but I could see myself coming back any time of year. It's just that perfect.
