Estancia Vik Jose San Ignacio

I loved the food and the service, and the setting is marvelous. Each room features the work of a different artist. Best of all, 140 horses roam freely across acres and acres of untouched flatlands. One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at!

Riding through Uruguay's huge open landscapes on such well-cared-for horses was the standout for us, and a core memory from our honeymoon. The chef even put together a special tasting menu for the occasion. Everyone was warm, polite, and keen to make the stay special, and reception was welcoming and responsive throughout. The views are breathtaking, and the quiet, slower pace made it easy to unplug and leave feeling relaxed and inspired. The hotel has a magical mix of art, architecture, and rustic charm. Some parts are showing their age in ways that don't feel charming, though, and could use a little touch-up to match the standard it aims for. It's a lovely place to take in nature and enjoy thoughtful service.

A peaceful place to get away from the beach in José Ignacio and nearby. The views and breeze are lovely, and the staff and service are excellent. If you can, take a horse tour and catch a polo match.

The food was a real highlight: farm-to-table, beautifully presented, nourishing, and made with anti-inflammatory ingredients. I also enjoyed picking fresh produce and learning about their sustainable process. Connecting with the horses during horse therapy felt profound and magical. I'm usually more drawn to beaches and deserts, and I tend to like modern comforts, but this countryside stay was grounding and serene. I appreciated Estancia Vik's rustic elegance, and the staff were always kind, attentive, warm, and thoughtful. It reminded me how good it can be to slow down and reconnect with nature.
