Refugio del Solís

The park was the highlight for me: lots of nature, with tables and hammocks where you can unwind, plus a lovely view of the stream and sunset. The pools are very nice, and breakfast was homemade and delicious, though a few details still need attention. Day visits are available at a different rate, but day guests can’t shower in the pool changing rooms. Towels are provided for the pool, but there are no bathrobes. We stayed one night. Check-in and check-out times worked well, service was good, and everything was very clean. The cabin had the basics. I already knew the place, and while it’s improved, it still has the same character. I’d recommend it, though the price isn’t especially affordable.

The staff were excellent, and we have no complaints about the service. The cabins are fine, though the cable TV is poor: I couldn’t turn down the volume with the remotes and had to use the TV itself. The book in the cabin is outdated. Breakfast is usually good, and the carrot cake is fabulous, please keep serving it. It’s worth coming for the day, and we’ll be back. We love the place and think it has potential. I mean this as constructive feedback; the owners can decide what to do with it. The times I’ve met them, they seemed pleasant. Some areas need upkeep. The playground equipment has had cobwebs on it for a long time. I know insects are part of being outdoors, but the webs make it clear this area needs attention. The pools were quite dirty, and there was mold along the outdoor pool edges. In peak season, it would help to have staff make sure everyone showers before swimming and, if possible, give the pools a quick clean, since flies and mosquitoes gather there. The seating beneath the vines, including the chairs and tables, also looks neglected. I go every few years, and this time I felt I should write a review. It seems overrated. Spending 6,000 and something pesos per night, plus 1,200 pesos for a late checkout, is expensive. They could consider offering two check-in times, one in the morning or midday and another in the afternoon or evening. The rules at Refugio del Solís should be posted clearly. There’s a sign at the pools saying not to eat or drink, but I didn’t see one telling people to shower before going in.

Just an hour from Montevideo, it makes a wonderful getaway. The views and scenery are spectacular, the service is excellent, and breakfast is an exquisite homemade spread. Perfect for a few days of relaxing.

We spent the day here for my son’s birthday, and it was our first visit. The whole property was clean and well kept, and the staff were attentive at breakfast. The food was tasty and there was plenty of it. We didn’t stay in the cabins, but I’d definitely recommend the place.
