The cabin is cozy, has a grill, and is well suited to couples, with a great location. There are a few things that could use attention: the bathroom needs a shelf or cabinet, there’s no clothes rack in the closet, the front door catches on the wooden floor, and the water pressure isn’t reliable. These are small problems for a stay of just a couple of days, and they’d be easy for the owners to fix. Still, it’s a very nice place.

Gustavo, the owner, was especially attentive and friendly. The place is lovely, even better than the photos, and the views from the monkeys at the top are spectacular. I found it very peaceful, though I visited at the end of peak season. It has what you need for a short stay: plates, glasses, cups, wine glasses, cutlery, and kitchen utensils. For anything else, there’s a convenience store next door that takes debit and credit cards. The beach is close, and from there it’s easy to reach La Pedrera. There’s no giant sign for the entrance to the monkeys, but it’s easy to find, especially with GPS on our smartphones in 2023. These places are for one or two people, so they’re highly recommended for solo trips or a couple’s getaway. Honestly, I don’t have much to add to all the nice things other travelers have already said.

Our stay at Los Monos wasn’t really an experience at all. I don’t know if it was because the season was ending, but the place we found was filthy, with rat droppings. A property should be checked before new guests arrive. We were there as a family, with my partner and our son, who was only two months old, so you can imagine our reaction. The owner’s response felt very basic. He said fumigation had been done at the beginning of the season, but didn’t apologize for what happened or offer any solution. I understand that people in Rocha can be very relaxed, but this felt disrespectful. I’m taking a few minutes to write this here and on Booking.com so it doesn’t happen to other guests in the future. The apartment was comfortable and had everything we needed for a few days away. We spent a whole week there sightseeing and never needed a thing. It’s only two blocks from the beach. We left happy!

The bathroom sign made it sound as if guests weren’t paying for utilities, even though those costs are part of staying there. Wi-Fi was listed for the room, but it barely reached because there’s no fiber internet. There were hardly any toiletries, and the place is far from everything. I didn’t enjoy it and won’t return.
