New Arapey Hotel

The rooms were good, and the interior design was nice. It's an old building, so I don't understand the complaints about the hallways. You're sleeping in the room, after all. Javier at reception was really helpful with check-in and answered my questions about the city center. The location is very central.

The reception staff were lovely, check-in was easy, and paying by card had no extra charge. We were only there one night in a double room, and it was so cramped that one person had to enter, partly close the door, then squeeze past so the other could get in. The sheets and towels looked washed, but had small old stains embedded in them. The bathroom was a little weird, with the toilet and bidet in the curtained shower area, and not very comfortable. On the good side, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom fairly modern, and the hotel generally clean. Wi-Fi was fast, and there was soap in the bathroom, which isn't always the case in South America. The hotel is well located, around an 8 minute walk from plaza Independencia, with shops, a few restaurants, and currency exchange nearby. The building is really old and could use remodeling. There were holes in the wall of our room, maybe from mice, and the hallways and rooms had terrible lighting. I was genuinely scared to shower. It felt like staying in an old hospital for people who'd lost their minds. Actually, perfect for Halloween. Scary.

Right in Montevideo's old town, with a bus stop just outside and a couple of cheap places to eat close by. It's a budget hotel, so don't expect too much. But it's clean, comfortable, and very well located.
