Hotel Danae

The wifi and hot water worked fine. After that, things went downhill fast. Maybe I got the worst room in the place, but it was disgusting. The room was cramped and tiny, and the air conditioning didn’t work, though it would spit out ice pellets now and then. I had to sit sideways on the toilet because it was right up against the sink pedestal. The sheets and towels were old and threadbare, paint was peeling everywhere, and the property was in terrible disrepair. The lock barely worked, so I could hardly open my door. There are cameras all over the place, and it felt like they were watching my every move. Breakfast was laid out and ready by 6, including what little meat there was, but they don’t open until 8. At 7:58, while a few of us were milling around, I poured myself coffee from the dispenser. They told me not to drink it because it wasn’t 8 yet, so it just sat there until they gave the go-ahead. For context, I travel nearly full time and have stayed in hundreds, maybe thousands, of hotels across most countries. I seek out highly rated places on Google and Booking reviews, and probably give about 90% of the places I stay perfect scores. This was by far the worst hotel I’ve stayed at since my backpacking days more than 30 years ago. Back then, I expected humble accommodations. This time, the reviews had led me to expect at least an okay place. It’s a total dump, and very, very weird.
