Hotel Select

Our stay fell apart before we even got a room. We had booked a quadruple room for USD 90 and a double for USD 80 through Booking.com, and already had a confirmation number and PIN. Soon after booking, someone from the property, Analuz, contacted us on WhatsApp. Our number had been shared through the platform, but we hadn't given it directly for this. They asked us to transfer money or send our full card details, including the security code, to “secure” the booking. That felt unsafe and went against Booking.com guidance, so I asked to cancel. They then said we didn't have to pay ahead and could pay at the hotel. They also told us there was no shampoo, conditioner, or pool towels, which didn't match how the place appeared online. When we arrived, they couldn't find our booking. Even with the confirmation details and WhatsApp messages, the staff wouldn't check them and told us to book again there. We made a new reservation for one room for three and one for one, thinking those were the same arrangements. At reception, answers weren't helpful. We asked what the difference was between an upstairs and downstairs room and got, “one is up, the other is down.” We chuckled briefly at the lack of explanation, which clearly didn't go over well. Since there's no elevator, we chose downstairs. They first gave us breakfast hours of 9:00-9:45. When we asked for another option, they offered 8:00-8:45, then after we spoke with another staff member, said we could come between 8:00 and 10:00. The room they called a quadruple turned out to be a triple with just two beds. I raised it with the staff, and the manager came over. She said she “knew everything by memory,” kept interrupting, and went on about the difference between triple and quadruple rooms. She accused me of shouting while I was calmly explaining the problem. She said we'd have to pay extra for a quadruple and at first didn't believe the Booking.com rate was USD 90. I eventually got internet access and showed her the original confirmation. Even then, she talked down to us and focused on room definitions instead of the actual issue: we'd booked for three people and didn't have enough beds. We decided to leave and ask for a refund. The process was chaotic, and the staff struggled with their own system. During it, the manager called us “loud,” “difficult,” “chicken,” and other inappropriate names in front of junior staff. It was completely unprofessional. No surprise the property was empty and had such poor reviews. We ended up at a nearby beachfront hotel around the corner, and it was significantly better: nicer rooms for a better price, breakfast from 8:00 to 10:30, pool towels, shampoo and conditioner, and friendly, professional staff. THIS PROPERTY IS MISLEADINGLY ADVERTISED, POORLY MANAGED, AND HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND AVOIDING IT.

For a short stay, it's a good option that matches the price. Reception staff were friendly and attentive, and even helped beyond their usual administrative duties. The location is excellent, and our quiet first-floor room was a nice place to relax. It was bright, had windows for ventilation, and came with a TV and air conditioning. We could also leave our luggage at reception. The outdoor pool stayed open until 9 pm and the indoor one until 8 pm. There are a few things that could be better. Breakfast was short on fresh fruit and could use more kinds of tea and yogurt. The shower flooded the bathroom when water spilled over the outside drain, so we used the communal shower by the indoor pool instead. The single beds had thin mattresses, and the Wi-Fi was unreliable. There was no safe. The hot water dispenser needed two 10-cent coins, which were hard to get, so it would be good to have a fact sheet format instead. The pool had too much chlorine and an inaccessible step. There was no ramp, only stairs, which isn't suitable for people with limited mobility.

The breakfast was mostly pastry and needs improvement, and the pizza and lunch options looked completely unappealing. The indoor pool had so much chlorine that it got into our clothes and made our eyes sting. The hotel has a nice side, but there's plenty to work on. We'd booked a first-floor room, but for some reason they put us on the ground floor at first. We slept terribly because of the very loud mini-fridge, the two separate mattresses on the bed, and noise in the hallways. The following day they moved us to the room we'd paid for upstairs, and it was nothing like the first-floor room. Reception service was lacking too. No one mentioned that we needed to leave the key for cleaning, and when we came back from the pool the room was still filthy. They did change the towels later.

We were comfortable the whole stay, and the hotel is lovely with incredibly friendly staff. Breakfast could have a little more variety, and the bathroom door in our room needed some work to close properly. There was also a huge spider on the ceiling. It was already there when we arrived, so we gave it a name and left it alone. Thank you!
