My mom came all the way from Miami for an important event in Punta and stayed here. The hotel people accused her of being a thief, then found what was missing moments later. The place is disgusting, and everything seems poor quality. I can't recommend it less. If you're on vacation, don't come here. Worst stay ever.

Aqua gets three and a half stars from me. It has upsides and downsides, but keep in mind it's an older hotel in Uruguay. Booking sites can have tiny, bare-bones rooms for 89 us. We paid 150US a night for a jr suite, and the huge 10x20 terrace made the stay. Only 4 rooms have those. Breakfast was big and plentiful, one of the better ones we've had in South America. The location is great too, a few blocks from Mansa beach, Gordelero, shops, bars, and restaurants, right in the middle of a fashion district. It's old, a bit dirty, and needs service and upgrades. I could see they were making some improvements, like fresh paint and new towels, so they're putting in effort. I read Spanish reviews saying service was poor, but we had no problems. Uruguayans can be a little gruff, so remember to tip a bit and it makes all the difference. Stay here if you can look past the grit and find a good deal in the heart of the punta peninsula.

The room I was first offered for $127 was basically a box, so I complained and they moved me to a nice one. I booked through Booking.com, which is why I gave it three stars. The safe didn't work, the fridge was empty, and the outdoor deck looked like it hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. This is why Airbb seems like such a good deal.
