The streets felt very unsafe for getting around on foot. Punta Del Este seems to act as if pedestrians don't exist, with close to zero sidewalks, as though you're expected to use a car for every errand. Drivers were very aggressive and rarely yielded right of way. The architecture is beautiful, but it's hard to appreciate while navigating such an anti-human landscape. The location is near an amazing beach with big, fun waves. But people don't clean up after their dogs, which was a major turn off for me. I even saw dog shit in the water. The service was great. People were kind and the cleaning staff were wonderful. I liked the high ceilings, especially the concrete ceiling, and the king sized bed with a TV opposite. The bathroom had a great shower, toilet, and bidet. Still, in room 208 the toilet seat lid was damaged, and the shower fixture had stress fractures and leaked water, probably causing some pressure loss. A big plus was the high quality vegan, fragrance free soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Breakfast was underwhelming for someone eating plant based. They serve yogurt that barely anyone seems to drink, but have no plant based option. All I could eat was bread with jam. Nothing had an ingredients list, so I was guessing most of the time. Behind the counter it was all cold cuts, cheese, and cakes. There was fruit, but the bananas were unripe.

The neighborhood is peaceful and relaxed compared with the peninsula, which is just a walk along the beach away. The beach itself is a quick two minute walk, though you need to be careful crossing the road. There aren't sidewalks in the neighborhood. I'd also recommend the small grocery store two blocks away for snacks and drinks. At Hotel La Capilla, the reception workers were very kind and welcoming. Our room was clean and well equipped, with a very comfortable bed. The pillows were large, but we still slept well. The shower felt luxurious, with lots of options, and I especially appreciated the handheld setting for rinsing sandy feet. I'm vegan and allergic to artificial fragrance, so I was pleasantly surprised that the soap, shampoo, and conditioner were vegan and fragrance free. The room and sheets didn't smell at all either. Breakfast kept me full, with delicious bread and jam, fruit, and juice. They didn't have dairy free yogurt or milk, and I wished there were vegan pastries too. It was an amazing experience, and I'd definitely recommend it ❤️

The breakfast was mostly pastries, yogurt, cheese, spreads, scrambled eggs, and coffee or tea. There weren’t any vegetables, and a waiter had to serve most of the pastries, so if she was busy or away, you had to wait. In the room, the shower and toilet share one space, which gets wet when someone showers and means you can only use one at a time. There was no tea, coffee, or hot water, and the sofa bed was very uncomfortable. There wasn’t a loveseat or other seating either. The room itself was spacious and nicely designed, with a smart TV, a good main bed, and a roomy shower. It’s an okay hotel in a nice location. I’ve stayed in worse and better.

The breakfast had plenty of fresh options, and I really liked the pool and sauna, though the outdoor section was closed. The shower was great and the beds were comfortable, but the pillows were enormous and unusable. The young man at reception was there both when we arrived and when we checked out. He seemed lifeless and almost rude, which, along with the pillows, kept this from getting five stars. The hotel is also a bit remote if you don’t have a car, about a 40-minute walk from both the bus terminal and the city. I loved the place otherwise.

Don Carlos was a real morning sunshine at breakfast. My 86-year-old father and I don’t speak Spanish, but he understood everything we asked and was quick and cheerful. We loved the pool and the big spa too. We had a great stay at La Capilla in Punta Del Este.
