Salty House La Barra

I wouldn’t recommend booking here. We made a reservation through Booking, and a few days beforehand they messaged us on WhatsApp to say it wasn’t available because of problems at the hostel. They offered us the previous day instead. It felt like they’d received a more profitable offer and chose to cancel ours, even though it had been confirmed. We’d already made plans, and now, so close to the trip, we had to find somewhere else. A confirmed reservation may still be cancelled just days before, so I don’t consider this hostel reliable.

There were six people in a very cramped bedroom and bathroom, and the street-facing window had a broken lock. Our beds had no lockable drawers, so our things were left on the floor, which made us very uncomfortable at a place open 24 hours. We had booked two days in a mixed dorm for two people, but were put in a female-only room because no mixed beds were available. It seemed they had taken more bookings than there were beds. After another group arrived, they tried to split us up into separate rooms. There was also someone staying in the room who had no reservation and wasn’t on any register.

The patio was really nice, and the kitchen was clean and well equipped. The staff were very friendly, too. We spent two days in the suite, which was comfortable for a couple, though we got single sheets instead of a double set and would have liked another set of towels and a proper double bed frame. It stays cool and comfortable at night. With no availability, we spent another day in the four-person room. It worked for two, but would be cramped for four, and the fan didn’t reach the upper beds. They should add another fan on the wall above them. Locks on the shared rooms and main entrance would help. We’d recommend it for a short stay.

The room was unbearably hot, tiny for four people, and had just one outlet. The photos made it look spacious, but it was the opposite. One of us had to leave because there wasn’t room for all four of us and our suitcases. When we mentioned it, the girl said, “Oh, you brought four suitcases.” Nobody had told us that four cases wouldn’t fit. One person had to take the suitcases to put them on a bed. After that, the three of us remaining asked to switch rooms, but she kept saying the other room was reserved. Then we saw on Instagram that they were posting it as available. The price was incredibly high for such terrible service. I’d never recommend this place.
