Akmal and the staff made this a really special stay. The breakfasts were a highlight for me, even though I’m not usually keen on Uzbek food. They were delicious, varied from day to day, and served at the table instead of the dull buffets we got elsewhere. We also ate most of our other meals at their garden restaurant across the street, because we liked the food, service, and atmosphere so much. Try the semi-sweet pomegranate wine from Fergana! When we had to leave at 4:30am for a train, the staff got up to help without us asking and had packed us a lovely breakfast to take along. They wouldn’t even let us pay for it. Akmal also arranged the most authentic experience of our trip for me, a visit to a 600-yr-old hammam. Laundry and maid service were quick and much cheaper than what we paid elsewhere, and Akmal speaks impeccable English. There were several women traveling alone among the guests. I wasn’t on my own this time, but would have felt completely safe and comfortable if I had been. The hotel is a small, converted madrasah, with more charm than any other place we stayed in Uzbekistan. It’s not fancy, but the decor feels thoughtfully authentic, with Suzani bedspreads, lovely Uzbek rugs, and traditional furniture. Everything was exceptionally clean, and the rooms had most modern conveniences, including plenty of outlets, decent WiFi, well-appointed bathrooms, fantastic AC, and a misting system that made breakfast in the picturesque courtyard a delight even in August. Lyabi Khause is just a short walk away. One practical note: the Amulet website hasn’t been kept up, and its contact information is wrong. Those thick walls keep things peaceful inside, even though the hotel is only steps from the city hotspot. The building is historic and has been converted into a hotel. Our cozy room had a comfortable bed, strong air-conditioning that handled the harsh summer heat, and a big bathroom. Everything was impeccably clean, and breakfast was delicious and carefully prepared.

The breakfast was varied and changed every day, and the inner yard was a comfortable, well-kept place to eat it. Our three rooms were all clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. The bathrooms were very big, and the laundry service was useful in the middle of our trip across Uzbekistan. The price was very reasonable, and the clothes came back the same day at good quality. Most of the staff were helpful and accommodating. We’d wanted to book this place on earlier trips but couldn’t get availability, and finally stayed after many friends recommended it. The historical pedestrian center of Bukhara is just steps away. One person at reception, Mirhon?, often seemed bothered by our presence and questions. He checked us in late in the evening without offering help with the luggage. He also warned us not to return after midnight because he would close the main doors and “will got to sleep,” which would leave us unable to get into the hotel. That struck us as very unusual, and he seemed unhappy to be there over the following days too. Breakfast had only instant coffee, with no espresso or cappuccino, and that could be improved even if it cost extra. Despite these smaller issues, we’d still recommend a stay.

Breakfast was the best part for us: we sat down to traditional Uzbek-style dining and plate after plate of tasty local food. The baklava was especially good. Amulet Hotel has an old-world feel in both its decor and structure, the room was very comfortable, and the staff were extremely courteous. It’s also a great base, just a two-minute walk from Lyabi Khauz, the main area in Bukhara. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting.

A lovely place inside an old madrassa. Clean rooms and bathrooms, and the service was 10/10.
