The old building is a real highlight, with impressive architecture and a lot of charm. My stay fell short in several practical ways, though. The room smelled unpleasant when I arrived and that never got better. Housekeeping was limited: towels weren't changed, toilet paper and other essentials weren't refilled, and the room hadn't been cleaned well between stays. Staff service varied, with some friendly moments and other times when they seemed indifferent. Breakfast was just average, nothing memorable. Better cleanliness, service, and amenities would make a big difference.

It's just a short walk to the main sights, and we felt safe walking around at night. Breakfast in the courtyard was great, and the setup there was charming. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the teenagers spoke fluent English. The building and room look just like the Google Maps photos, with the old madrasa's history and atmosphere adding to the charm. You can get a little city view from the rooftop too. One downside in the room was the thin blanket instead of a comforter, which could make the night a bit cold. The bathroom also has no window.

We'd happily stay here again. The price was reasonable, the place was clean, and the back street location was quiet and convenient. Breakfast was amazing and the staff were friendly. The only thing I'd change is the mattresses, which felt a bit firm.

The staff made us feel welcome and helped where they could. Our room was warm, and the beds were more comfortable than the ones we'd slept in earlier in Uzbekistan. Bring cash if you can, since the card machine isn't reliable and may take around 30 minutes to work. We had a pleasant stay.
