I was really touched when they learned it was my birthday and stayed up with a cake. The hospitality was top notch from the start, too, with quick replies to my messages before I arrived, an easy transaction, and help with everything. Breakfast was a feast for the eyes and tasted great, with enough variety for everyone. islam khodja mindset is closest, and the other places are easy to reach on foot. If you aren't planning to go inside museums, Juma Masjid, or islam khodja mineret, I'd skip the ticket. Even with it, some places charge extra, and Itchan Kala was beautiful just to wander around. My main problem in Khiva was finding a shared taxi to bhukara. The Yandex driver asked me to cancel, and the hotel owner helped by offering to take me to Urgench for the same price as Yandex since he had work there. He also called his contacts to try to find me a ride to Bhukara. That ride was badly delayed because we almost went back toward khiva, then drove into a dusty area to pick up two more people. In the end, we paid extra to go with three people instead of four and avoid further delays. I'd suggest getting to Urgench by 8 to 10am if you want a good chance of finding a shared taxi. We arrived at 12.40pm and there was nobody there.
