I spent six nights in the hostel’s 8-bed mixed dorm. The setting is quiet, the Wi-Fi reaches well into the dorm, breakfast is good, and the staff did make an effort to keep the washroom clean. The location is ideal, along the pedestrian walkway midway between Registan Square and Bibi Khanum Mosque. One night, when the dorm had no beds free, they put me in a private room. It meant less privacy, but was fine for that night. There were fruit flies all over, even by the beds, which made lying down and sleeping uncomfortable with them around my face. The washroom also had a strange sewage and pipe smell. I was on a very high top bunk the whole six nights, which was awkward to climb. They said they’d move me to a lower bed when one opened up, but that never happened. I asked if breakfast could be served early once, at 7:30 instead of the usual 8, because I had an early shared taxi for a day trip to Shahrisab. They said no. The young gentleman told me he’d also turned down four other guests asking for early breakfast that morning. I understand they have a strict policy, but small adjustments like that can make a stay memorable and help guests recommend a place to other travellers. The shared area could be cozier too. There are two dining tables with chairs, but a more relaxing place to hang out would help travellers spend time together.

The view was nice, but I had a terrible stay and wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. I booked a room with its own bathroom, yet had to use the shared one outside. The sheets were dirty and stained, with short hairs on them. The old heater kept switching off and on, so the room stayed cold and I slept in my down jacket. The shower pressure was weak, it drained badly, and the amenities weren’t comfortable. My breakfast, ordered for 8 a.m., wasn’t ready, so I had to rush. The bread was stale and dry, the jam cheap and unappealing, and they brought green tea when I’d asked for black. They left my luggage outside, where it could have gotten rained on. After I’d paid, they wouldn’t print my check-in receipt and told me to leave quickly. I spent 20 minutes arguing to take a photo of it, even though I had the right to do so. It felt like they don’t care about guests once they’ve paid. I should have stayed elsewhere. As the name suggests, everything is old. I also felt they looked down on Asians. The hotel left me with a bad impression of Samarkand, and the reply also lies.

Cheap, clean, and in a good location, with a nice breakfast too. If you’re after an affordable place with a clean environment, this is the best hostel I’ve stayed at in Samarkand.

The staff were outstanding, and I got the warmest welcome I’ve had. They were so kind and cheerful, and took care of my laundry right away when I urgently needed it done. My private room was great, with a good shower shared with the other private room. Breakfast was huge and delicious. 100000/10, I can’t say enough good things. Don’t stay anywhere else in Samarkand.

The inner garden is a great place to meet other people, and the hostel is close to all the main attractions. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. My bed was roomy and comfortable, and the bathroom worked well. Breakfast was extensive, with fruit, meat, vegetables, eggs, and pancakes. I can’t think of a single negative thing, and I’d highly recommend choosing this hostel.
