Hotel Grand Capital Hotel

My experience here was ruined. I ended up needing emergency care, and even that was better than this hotel. For a foreigner, especially an Indian guest, this was the worst hotel in Tashkent for me. The rooms were very average, nowhere near a decent lifestyle, let alone luxury. There was no refrigerator, no towel slippers, ironing board, or iron, and the water bottles cost extra. The TV had no foreign language channels, not even English. There was no Indian food. As a vegetarian, the options were mostly pizza and salad, and vegans should avoid this place. The pizza came in a low-quality box without cutlery, seasoning, or sauce, just dough and vegetables. The hotel has no kitchen, and food comes from a nearby local restaurant that closes by 10 PM, so there’s no late night dining. A vegetarian night owl may end up going to bed hungry. There’s no bar or minibar, and the hotel has no alcohol on the premises or within a kilometre. If you want a drink, staff can arrange it if you pay cash in local currency, but only in bulk, so apparently it’s for heavy drinkers. The one good thing was that poor room service was free.

I went in winter and really loved it. Everything felt clean, cozy, and pleasant, and the staff were extremely polite. The rooms had such a nice smell, too. Breakfast was so good that I think I’ll remember it for a long time, with everything you could want and included for free. I swear I’d go back if I got the chance, though it was a little more expensive than I expected.

The staff were friendly, and the price seemed fairly moderate for somewhere in the city center. But the water was dirty. I put a clinex over the drain, and after ten minutes it had turned brown. No wonder the bath curtains were brown too. Breakfast was poor, and I suppose it was made with dirty water.

The place feels ancient, and the furniture is chipped. The bath tube leaks, the bedside light doesn’t work, and neither does the phone. Towels that used to be white are grey now, and breakfast comes on yesterday’s dishes. The only reasons I’m giving it two stars are the friendly staff and the location. Otherwise, a total disappointment.
