Breakfast was just alright, and often seemed cold or less than fresh. Some bread was hard, and the fruit was discolored. Cleaning also needed work: there was other people's hair in several places, and the towels didn't smell fresh. The bigger problem was the shower drains. We stayed in two rooms, and both had clogged drains. We reported it more than once and were told it would be fixed, but every shower still left us standing in overflowing water, with hair from previous guests coming up through the drain. The customs registration documents weren't ready the evening before we left, either. We waited for hours, and staff woke us several times late at night with updates that it was “almost fixed” or that “the manager is dealing with it”. It wasn't sorted until after midnight.
The dorm itself was nice, and I stayed four nights, but there was no privacy curtain. The bathrooms were clean for two days, then not so much. What really made the stay unpleasant was the atmosphere with the staff. They seemed to treat the place as their home, and it didn't feel welcoming to guests. There was a fully functioning kitchen, but guests weren't allowed to use it. Nobody mentioned that at check-in and there were no signs. I only found out after going to the shop to get things to cook with. They said they'd make an exception, but I felt uncomfortable. On another occasion, they asked me to leave because a staff member wanted to take dinner to the room. That seemed strange and rude, especially since it was just one person eating a pot noodle.
Doniyor and Nosir were helpful and professional at reception, and their good English made things easy for me as a tourist from India who doesn't speak Uzbek or Russian. Doniyor also suggested a nice spot for an English breakfast. I spent one night at Istanbul Hostel in Tashkent in the last week of April 2025, in a room with two single beds and a shared washroom. Both were very clean and well kept. It's conveniently near Tashkent South Railway Station and not too far from the airport. Good value for a solo traveler or anyone after a simple, short stay.
Akbarxo’ig took the time to show me each room that was available and helped me choose what suited my stay. He knows the place well and was very accommodating, warm, and professional. Istanbul Hotel Tashkent had a pleasant atmosphere, and I had a wonderful stay. I'd recommend it and will come back on my next trip.
Doniyor was especially kind during my stay and shared lots of tips for traveling around Uzbekistan. He even let me leave my backpack while I explored the city for the day. The hostel was very clean, and the beds had curtains for some privacy. The staff were kind and helpful. A great place to stay in Tashkent!
