Urganch Hotel

I arrived around 23:30 on 2017-11-20 without a reservation. A man was asleep at reception, so I had to wake him. He tried to help at first, but we couldn’t understand each other and he lost patience quickly. I speak only about 20 words of Russian, and he spoke about three words of English. I wanted to pay in Som, the local currency, or by card, but he insisted on US dollars, repeating “DOLLAR! DOLLAR!” When I went to my motorcycle to get dollars from my money stash, he stood beside me shining a flashlight and saying it again. His irritated tone and body language were unacceptable. I didn’t want him watching where I kept my money, but he didn’t seem to understand. I only had $100 notes, and he and another woman who apparently worked at the hotel had no change. They wanted to keep my $100 and passport until the next day. I refused because I think that’s bad practice. I said I’d pay tomorrow, but he told me to go to my motorcycle. There I realized he wanted me to leave and wasn’t accepting me as a guest. About an hour after arriving, I drove off to look for somewhere else to sleep. I travel a lot and have never been treated so badly at a hotel. I think it would be best for everyone if that man no longer worked with people, especially in a hotel.

I can't recommend this place to anyone.

The service was good.

The breakfast fruit was amazing, and the staff always welcomed me back with smiles after I’d been out. It was my first trip to Uzbekistan, and the owner and staff were so kind. I stayed four nights; the room was clean and the air conditioning kept it cool. I won't forget it. Five stars! ^^
