It may be marketed as a 5-star hotel, but at least two of those stars seem rusty. Our first room had no hot water. In the second, the window was broken, the sink didn't work right, and the water wouldn't drain. The staff didn't apologize and made us feel we shouldn't expect better.

Breakfast is really top-notch. It's a great place to stay for work or a vacation.

The food was bland, the service was poor, and the hotel felt dated. I wouldn't stay there again.

It took three hours to get a room, then 20 minutes to get a receipt at checkout. Maybe this was a fancy hotel once, but it needs a major overhaul now.

The location by Lake Maracaibo is lovely, with some shops around the lobby and a mall next door, and the staff are polite. But the old Intercontinental has seen better days. It's now a government-owned socialist hotel, and the place is gloomy and smelly.
