Sunsol Unik Luxury Hotel

I was invited for breakfast and a tour, and came away impressed. The location is superb, within walking distance of tourist and commercial spots and close to shopping malls. Some areas have been remodeled. The pool area is newly renovated and has a bar, massage service, a playground, and a spa-like pool. There’s also an outdoor waterfall area by the lobby for smokers. Kids and teens should enjoy it. The lobby is medium-sized, with an indoor bar, a large TV for watching games, and places to relax. It opens in the mid-morning. The hotel suits family, romantic, or business stays, and you can also spend a full day by the pool. Rates are over the hundred mark, but seem worthwhile for this category. You can’t go wrong staying here on the island.

The restaurant is the standout, with a high-quality breakfast and everything baked on site. Rooms are spacious and finely decorated, especially the ones overlooking the pool. The gym and spa area are top-notch, and the pool is cool, maybe too cool, though the sun is great. Front desk check-in was kind, and service was just right. The bar has a lively feel with music and videos. The hotel had just had its pre-inauguration when I visited. I’d recommend staying more than 5 days to enjoy the spa and go shopping.

The layout felt a little odd because we had to go outside and cross the parking lot to reach the travel agency. Still, it’s an upscale hotel, probably the nicest we saw on Margarita Island. The restaurant was very good, and there’s an unusual double waterfall view at the entrance. The WiFi impressed me, the first time on the island it was much faster than anywhere else.

After staying here at least twice a year for over 4 years, we won’t be back. We were there for a wedding, and it was a disaster. The hotel changed the agreed fees by 300 percent during the week of the wedding. With over 90 guests, we were treated badly, and waited at times more than an hour for lunch and dinner. The managers were especially hostile and aggressive, refusing to find a solution that worked for everyone. They insisted things had to be their way, and I saw the bride crying at least 5 times in 4 days because of the lack of compassion and empathy. The workers were always willing to help, so hats off to them. The managers were disgusting, claiming to help but repeatedly insisting on their own way. They raised prices whenever they wanted, and exorbitant charges were the order of the day. We understand bad things can happen in a failing economy, but when tourism is important, treating tourists this way is the last thing you want. It felt like a sinking boat where the crew made their own boats instead of fixing the leak. We were charged and robbed at every turn, every day of our stay. The hotel staff told us the hotel couldn’t handle so many guests, and it showed. We waited 1-130 for lunch and dinner because they had only one cook. The bell boys even had to help cut up food in the kitchen to speed things up. 90 percent of us got sick either at the hotel or after arriving back home, and it was directly related to our stay.
