The night was miserable. After I reported the noise from the group in #301 at 9:30, security asked them to quiet down. It lasted about 15 minutes. By 10:30 I was asking to move rooms, but the staff had left, and the guard said he had called them and that my request was reasonable. He promised a quick answer. I heard nothing, and the group kept talking until 3 a.m. I was in and out of sleep for four hours, then changed my plans in the morning just to get away. The room itself felt unsafe. The door shifted in the wind and could be opened by sliding a card between it and the frame, as shown in my picture. The extra lock at the top didn’t work. The balcony had a nice view of Road Harbour, but the railing and half the deck seemed close to giving way. The lobby, bar, pool, and rooms were dirty and dated. The reception furniture and cushions were worn out, and the smoked plastic window at the desk made check-in feel like a no-tell motel. The walls are paper thin. I was the only guest in #302 until the loud group arrived next door. I’m upset with the people who recommended this place. I wouldn’t tell anyone to stay here, even someone I don’t like. At $220 a night, even in peak season, it should cost half as much. The location gets two points only for the view and being close to Conch Charters, which is a fantastic company.

Dinner was the highlight for me: I ordered grilled grouper with cajun sauce, vegetables, and rice, and it was delicious. The cook is a very sweet elderly woman who looked after me in a motherly way and even called a taxi. Meals are served on the veranda, where it seemed to be mostly a few hotel guests dining. This is a living piece of history, with spacious rooms, high ceilings, and lovely bay views. The staff were cordial, and the views are amazing. The A/C and WiFi worked well, the TV had standard cable, and there was plenty of hot water with strong pressure. Breakfast runs from 7 to 9 and dinner from 5 to 8. Breakfast is simple, just coffee or tea with eggs, sausage, and an English muffin. The dinner menu has pasta, meat, and fish options. I’d stay here again and would suggest it to people looking for an authentic, adventurous Caribbean experience. If you’re after a luxury hotel full of smiling faces, you should look elsewhere.

We only stayed one night before collecting our charter sailboat, but I’d do it again. The view is great, and the price felt worth it. Renting a cat made it easy to provision for the trip and take a lesson with BVI Kite Sailing. We also picked up pastries at BVI Coffee Shop and walked along the dock.

We booked a room with a pool, and it was worth every cent. After ten days sailing with Conch Charter, we were treated like royalty, and the stay was superb from check-in through checkout. The one thing I wish had been different was how empty the hotel was, given its amenities and views. Fort Burt Hotel is a hidden gem if you’re looking for a well-kept, hometown place run by locals, rather than a five-star resort. The views are amazing in every direction, and Lyra is such a sweet lady that she starts to feel like family.

The view was the only good part of this hotel. The room was unclean and had a roach, and there was no internet. Service was very poor. If I needed a towel, I was told I had to hand over the one in the room first, even though there were only two towels and two washcloths for us. I had children with me. The water situation made the stay especially difficult. After a beach trip, we came back to no running water, so we couldn’t shower or use the sink. The receptionist said the government had turned it off. We only had water for two days during the entire stay, and even then the pressure was extremely low. The toilets wouldn’t flush, and the room smelled bad. Thankfully, my family let us use the bathroom at their house. The room had no phone, so I couldn’t contact reception from there. The key card didn’t work, and there was no receptionist at the desk when I needed help. It took a while to find security, who said reception had already left and he couldn’t access the key. While waiting for him to call someone, I slid my credit card between the door and frame and it opened. I felt unsafe with my family there. There was no bolt, the left lock on the porch door didn’t work, and the window above the toilet was always left open, with a spider web. I showed the staff my safety concerns the next day. I expect basic amenities and decent customer service from a hotel, and this fell far below that. I wondered whether hotels across the BVI have water problems or whether there are particular months when the government turns it off.
