We were disappointed with our first St. John visit at Gallows Point, especially at around $1,100 a night, and wouldn’t recommend staying here. The upstairs unit’s harbor view didn’t justify the price, and the room’s upkeep was below what we expected at this level. The balcony door was visibly rotted, with a broken sweep left outside and several 2-inch screws sticking out. The toilet paper holder fell off during normal use. Several switches were upside down, including the inverted “Lutron” branding, which made the otherwise modern screwless plates feel carelessly installed. There are other signs of deferred maintenance. The structural framing looks appealing, but its exposed gusset plates are heavily rusted. I understand the challenges of a coastal setting, though comparable properties usually treat or paint these parts, and the finish quality difference is noticeable. The design has promise, but the upkeep and attention to detail don’t meet the price point.

My wife and I have stayed here twice, and the last visit was in February 2020. We made it home just before the Covid lockdowns! The units are beautiful and the ocean is stunning. It’s expensive, but worth it for our one winter escape. You can rent a Jeep from them and park for free, and Cruz Bay center is walkable. Joe & Ann Clark

The room was expensive, dated, and in disrepair. The website photos set a misleading expectation. There are rusty screws sticking out of the pool umbrella stand, and the grass was cut poorly, leaving clippings all over the walking areas. Inside, the warped patio door let lizards and humidity in each day. The master bedroom’s double doors opened onto a walkway with bright lights all night and no coverings. Shower wall paint was chipped, and mold had been painted over. The refrigerator seal didn’t work properly, bedroom lampshades were damaged and rusty, the sheets were stained, and both TVs and ROKUs didn’t work. There are plenty of better places at this price or less. Don’t waste your money.

The resort was very clean and well kept, and the staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We liked being close to downtown and having the shuttle service. I’m looking forward to my next trip to StJohn and will definitely consider staying at Gallows Point Resort again. Highly recommend.

This was our second stay at Gallows Point, and it was just as good as we remembered. The rooms are amazing, the views are the best on the island, and you can walk to everything you need. We’re already planning visit number three. Highly recommend.
