Island Beach Comber

This was a peaceful, relaxing place, great for unwinding and being with your own thoughts. The hotel is right on the beach, just 10 steps from the sand when you walk out the door, with a breathtaking view. I spent five days and four nights here and had a great time. The staff were amazing, and breakfast was great too. A down-to-earth hotel for a relaxing vacation in paradise.

The room was clean and nice inside, though the building is clearly old. We had a comfortable bed, flat-screen TV with limited cable channels, mini fridge, and coffee maker. The pillows were flat. Since we had a car, we went out to eat instead of using the bar and restaurant on site. The beach was clean, though I didn't see many chairs. My family and I had a wonderful time and would consider staying again. Staff were especially friendly and helpful, and the rates were reasonable. Our patio had a great view, and with the door closed we could still hear the ocean from bed. All rooms face the beach. It's also within walking distance of the airport.

We didn't stay at the hotel, but walked through the lush gardens on our way to the beach bar. The buildings looked like they needed quite a bit of updating. I ordered a drink, and my friend's bushwhacker was more like frozen slush and didn't have much flavor, so I took it back and asked for a different drink. We'd just come from two doctor appointments, and it was obvious my friend wasn't in the best health since we had to move chairs to accommodate them. I waited at the bar to deliver the drink, and the bartender said she'd bring it over. She kept flirting and joking around with a guy at the bar, served several other people, including new arrivals, and never brought it. My friend and I decided to leave. I paid for my drink and told the bartender not to bother making another. I reported what happened to the office on the way out. The previous bartender was cashing out and kindly offered an apology without blaming anyone, saying the poor service was due to a shift change. I don't buy that. The service was very poor, and I suspected the bartender had come to work under the influence. We'll never be back.

I was appalled by the owner's behavior. Michael was disrespectful and not accommodating. When I asked for my room to be cleaned and for fresh towels, he came to find me on the beach to argue, then told me in front of my child that I wasn't welcome and had champagne taste on a beer budget. It was insulting, and seemed like a joke to me, since I have a great job and salary. Expedia had booked the trip for me. The hotel was old, outdated, and filthy. The beds were nasty, the cleaning women had nasty attitudes, and there were literally roaches in the front office when I checked in. I was told rooms were cleaned every three days and they didn't like giving out fresh towels each day. There were stains on the walls and the rooms were disgusting. After the incident, people on the island came up to tell me he was a drunk who often acted that way toward visitors. If I'd known, I never would have stayed there. I moved to a very nice hotel for the same rate and felt much better. Expedia refunded my money, and I'll never stay there again. Trust me, don't stay there.
