Galleon House Hotel

I only needed a place to sleep between all my outings, so this hotel worked well for me. I stayed 3 nights and 4 days, and for a budget trip it was just what I expected. You're right in the middle of everything, and close to it all if you're renting a car. Room 104 had a fantastic view over the bay of Charlotte Amalie. The pool looked clean, though I didn't have time to use it. The walls are thin: the couple next door argued all night on our first night. That's not the hotel's fault, just bad luck. Water pressure in the shower was a bit low. Housekeeping didn't come the first day, so we put up the door hanger asking for service. I think they came the next day, but didn't do much in the room. Bring shampoo and conditioner. I'd recommend it for a long weekend. Also, try the bar at the hotel next door, the bartender is fantastic.

You get a spectacular harbor view for the price, probably the best one around. The rooms are fine, though a bit dated. Getting to them takes some effort: it's 52 steps from the entrance to the lobby level, with no porters to help with luggage, then another 18 steps up to our rooms on the first floor.

I chose it for my first night because it was near where I was picking up my car, but I had to cancel four days ahead because I got sick and the trip was called off. I called and spoke to a woman who sounded very bureaucratic. She wouldn't tell me whether I could get a refund and said I first had to contact booking.com so they could talk to her. I did that, and she sent the same response through the system. After waiting 24 hours with no answer, I decided to cancel directly and move on. I managed to cancel my other trip hotels and car rental without any frustration. This difficult refund process left me with a bad impression even though I never stayed there, and I don't plan to in the future.

Saida was very helpful before our visit and again during our stay when we had a late flight. The location is good, the pool is nice, and they have free breakfast and coffee in the morning. Thanks, we'd stay here again.
