Trung Nguyen Hotel

The room was clean and comfortable, and the balcony looked out over the busy market. The street outside was a bit noisy, though things quieted down after about 10 pm. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and the location right by the market is great. There’s a fridge in the lobby stocked with cold, cheap beer and water. I loved staying here and would definitely recommend it.

The staff are great and very helpful. The hotel has had a major refit recently, so it feels completely different from before. It’s all new and fresh, though a few areas look unfinished and some things aren’t working properly yet. It’ll probably be great once they sort everything out.

The receptionist was very helpful and spoke English, even giving me directions for breakfast. I’m from Canada and was visiting An Giang province in Vietnam. I arrived here by accident at 11 pm last night, when everything else was closed, so I stayed. It turned out to be a good place at a good price, 300k dong or 18 CAD. It’s a budget hotel.

We enjoyed a quick walk around the market and coffee with locals before heading off to Phnom Penh. The hotel is opposite the market, right in the center, and about five minutes from the river. It wasn’t too noisy for such a central spot, and there’s a hot shower. For a night in Chau Doc, it’s a practical budget option, but that’s about it. The room was very basic. It had a fridge that wasn’t switched on when we arrived, but no kettle. The shower got hot, though the plumbing was strange. There was a balcony, but no table, and it shared space with the AC unit, so it was unbearably hot and we couldn’t sit out there. A lizard was sharing the room with us, as has happened at many places we’ve stayed in Vietnam.
