Victoria Nui Sam Lodge

The room was a little dark, particularly at night, and could use more lighting to feel comfortable. Still, I had a very nice stay. The lodge has a lovely setting, an amazing view, and a relaxing atmosphere. Service was good, and the staff were friendly. I’d recommend it.

The lodge sits up near the mountain summit, with rooms at different levels among greenery. There are lots of brick steps and narrow corridors, but the place feels warm, modern, and distinctive. Each guest gets a small house with a huge private balcony, looking out over rice paddies and distant mountains. The view is especially photogenic at sunset. The rooms, food, and staff were all high quality. It’s not close to the center, but I was surprised to find that two other couples from my speedboat crossing Cambodia had also chosen Victoria Nui Sam Lodge as a comfortable place to rest.

The hotel may look old in online photos, and yes, it’s a bit outdated, but it’s squeaky clean and really lovely. From the moment you step in, it has a relaxing feel. Set in the mountain, Victoria Nui Sam gives you a 360 view of the town and makes a wonderful spot for sunset during a Mekong Delta trip. The food is top notch, so if you can’t find somewhere to eat nearby, just have a meal at the hotel. If you love a mountain retreat, this is the place.

The location, views, and clean, nice rooms were great. But six weeks after checkout, no refund had arrived for the place on an excursion we’d booked for four people. One person in our group fell ill and couldn’t join, and afterwards we were told illness didn’t qualify for a refund. That rule hadn’t been explained when we booked. The assistant manager said she would refund us, and the manager didn’t say she would stop it. She seemed to agree, too. We checked out after three nights, and this all happened then. This was poor and unprofessional. I’d avoid this badly managed place. One star feels too generous. It’s a complete con, with management keen to maximize profits at a client’s expense. Avoid. You can still enjoy the view over a coffee, but watch the bill.
