The hotel’s story is laid out in a gallery in the lobby, with its concept, materials, and design philosophy. As a designer, I loved seeing a hotel mood board presented like that for the first time. The care in the design shows in all the little details, and each corner made me want to stay a bit longer. Banla also felt like a relief after the loud, showy service we’d gotten used to at resort hotels in Vietnam. The reception team were attentive and gracious, but never intrusive, and their hospitality felt sincere and natural. The care here is quiet, which somehow makes it feel even more meaningful. We travel around Asia often and have stayed in plenty of beautiful hotels, but Banla has a soul and feels truly special.

The bathroom was awkward to use: the shower is mounted low, and water spills out into the room because of the design. If you’re over 1.7 m tall, you’ll keep bumping your head. The Wi-Fi was also barely usable, with only 1 to 2 bars in our top-floor room. Maybe coverage is better elsewhere, but they clearly hadn’t checked it in that room. Breakfast was included on paper. You choose one main dish in advance, and there’s meant to be a small fruit and salad buffet. What we got was poor, and the main dish portion was small. The room was listed as 20 m², but when I measured it, it was about 16 m² at best. That’s a serious difference. I checked with staff that we had the right room, and they said we did. When I later asked why it was so small and whether it was really 20 m² since I’d measured it, they paused and admitted it was around 18 m². I don’t see how they got that figure. The space was so tight that opening a medium suitcase blocked the whole walkway. The 1.6 × 2 m bed was pushed into a corner, so you couldn’t get around to the far side. Calling this a boutique hotel doesn’t excuse ignoring basic quality and honesty. The place is terrible value for money. If you want a cute, Instagram-worthy hotel, this still isn’t worth giving up comfort, honest room information, and basic functionality just for style.

The large bathtub by the window was a real plus for us, and the design made the place feel unique. We had a warm, cozy stay at banla. The staff were incredibly nice, and they offer some good services you can try.

I loved having a bathtub in the room, and breakfast Pho Bo was enjoyable. The staff were friendly too. This place has a welcoming, charming feel and a real sense of heart, which made it easy to relax. If you’re tired of the same-looking four- and five-star hotels everywhere and want somewhere different, this is a lovely, well-decorated option. I’ll definitely come back.

The breakfast was great, and the hotel felt cozy. Staff were really helpful, and the location was good. I’d definitely recommend staying here, especially for foreigners.
