Flamingo Garden Homestay

Room 501 was tiny, and the water and towels weren’t replaced regularly. They advertised bike hire but didn’t provide it. The TV was broken, and although we asked someone to properly check it and were told they would, nobody ever came. You can get better serviced accommodation elsewhere in Hoi An for half the price. I can’t recommend this place.

The family were so polite and gave us lots of recommendations, and the rooms were lovely and clean. It’s quite central too, with a riverside footpath you can follow all the way to the Old Quarter. I used the laundry service, and my clothes came back within a couple of hours smelling amazing. I’ll definitely be back 😊

The room was nothing like the listing suggested: our supposed 40 m2 Standard Double with a river view turned out to be a 10m2 closet overlooking the roof. The description and photos gave a totally misleading impression of the space, cleanliness and facilities. The wifi barely worked, the bathroom had mold, the walls were dirty, dust covered the floor, and red ants appeared on our last day. There wasn’t actually any water problem at all. We arrived 30 minutes after check-in time, and a woman told us the room was ready but the building had no water. She suggested we book somewhere else “for our own good” and kept insisting, which made us feel unwanted. We said it would be fine if the water was fixed by the next day. After about 10 minutes she agreed, but suddenly the room wasn’t available and we had to wait. We’d taken a taxi for nothing and had to go back into town to eat while they cleaned it. This was the worst room of our whole Vietnam trip for value, space and cleanliness.

The room itself was okay, but the owner was inhospitable. He insisted we park the car on the sidewalk. When I asked if he would take responsibility if anything happened to it, he said no. I asked several times to park in the yard, since I saw that parking was offered, but he refused each time. He also told us to leave our shoes outside and go upstairs barefoot, which I’ve never encountered before. I won’t come back. So bad!
