Unity Villa Hoi An

I only booked one night, and the owner kept asking where I was going next, which made me feel quite creeped out. The room he first showed me was vile, with mold and bugs in the bed. I went back down to leave, but he offered another room that was ten times better. Even so, it wasn’t very clean, and the bathroom wasn’t hygienic. It didn’t even have hand soap.

As a Canadian tourist, I found this a lovely, budget-friendly place. The owners were very friendly and had lots of useful tips, so just ask. Rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. It’s a short bike ride from several world heritage sites. They know a great tailor, and choices can be overwhelming, so go to their cousin at blue gecko. I compared prices and couldn’t find better. We also had them arrange a car to the golden gate bridge. It was excellent value, the driver took us all the way to the gate and waited while we toured, all for the price of a grab. The coffee spot breakfast joint next door was another five-star experience.

We booked three nights but walked out and found somewhere else after seeing the room, which was absolutely disgusting. The person at reception came out without a shirt to show us in. I wouldn’t book here. If zero stars were an option, that’s what I’d give.

We’d reserved four nights but left after just one. The bedding and towels were damp and seemed unwashed, there was mold in a room corner, and we found a bug in the bed. The owner was smoking in the lobby, which made me think the room cleaning wasn’t taken seriously either. We agreed to pay for two nights despite staying only one and were overcharged, but I didn’t want to upset him while both our passports were locked in his desk. I also suspect the owner is posting the positive reviews himself, so I wouldn’t trust them. There are plenty of nicer places in Hoi An for the same price or less.
